J18 EuroLeague
Valencia Basket secured their 12th EuroLeague win with a 91-81 victory over a resilient Kosner Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, whom they had to overcome three times to secure the win despite taking a two-game lead. The Valencian team turned on the offensive gas, scoring 39 points between the final five minutes of the first quarter and the first five of the second, sinking ten of their first thirteen three-pointers to build a lead. Kosner Baskonia reduced this advantage with a strong response from Luwawu-Cabarrot, bringing Valencia's lead to eleven at halftime. After the break, Valencia displayed a solid defensive performance, going on another run to extend their lead to its largest margin. However, the Vitoria-Gasteiz team found their rhythm from beyond the arc, getting back into the game and closing the gap to six with just under seven minutes remaining. But Valencia Basket played with composure and rediscovered their defensive energy in the final minutes to secure the victory
Quotes by Pedro Martínez
“What happens is one thing, and what we'd like to happen is another. The good news is when you score, when you take the lead, and the bad news is when they overtake you and you lose the game, but that's the way it is. Basketball is a dynamic sport where a lot of three-pointers are made; they play that way too, and we like it when we score, but not when they score and the gap narrows. You can't have it all. The kind of basketball we believe in is a back-and-forth game.”
